pigeonation

On a recent trip overseas, my wife and I spent some time in Edinburgh, Scotland. There was much to see and do, of course, given the weight of human history in that part of the world. However, what always intrigues me about any place, is the unsung weight of other than human history. Pigeons for example. They've lived alongside humanity for eon, have been eaten by us, despised for their guano, ignored as relevant, but ever present as watchers to our stupidity and consumers of our wastefullness. Interestingly, the Scottish government spends thousands of pounds a year to clean up the parliament buildings from the little messages pigeons leave behind.
